The Sony Mavica MVC-FD91 offers a tremendous 14x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization. The 1024 x 768 (0.8 megapixel) image size is quite low for cameras in its price range, but is fine for prints at sizes up 4 by 6 inches, which is as much as most people will use the camera for. The low pixel count is probably a good thing with the Mavica's reliance on low-capacity floppy disks as a storage medium, since lower resolution means smaller file sizes. While the 14x zoom lens is the main attraction, the MVC-FD91 also has a few other noteworthy features. An MPEG movie mode captures up to 60 seconds of audio and video at a resolution of 160 x 112, or up to 30 seconds at 320 x 240, on a standard floppy. The MVC-FD91 also features aperture and shutter priority modes, as well as a twilight shooting mode. The built-in flash has three modes: auto, on, and off. There's a manual focus ring. The optical viewfinder is actually a color EVF, which more and more manufacturers are providing, which essentially provides SLR-like functionality, and allows you to keep your eye on both your target and the system menus.
